Come on over to Central Kalimantan for a relaxing jungle river journey. Relax in comfort and enjoy delicious food made on board as you travel through magical reflections, see orangutans on forested islands, and visit traditional Dayak villages to experience their riverside lifestyle. Day 1: Palangka Raya – Start Cruise – Katimpun (Saturday/Tuesday) Meet at Palangka Raya your hotel or at the airport for transfer to your boat in Palangka Raya harbor to start your journey. Cruise past the stilted and floating houses of the provincial capital and continue upstream along the forest-lined river, passing villages. We stop at the village of Petuk Katimpun and walk along boardwalks to visit the small library foundation. The boat continues upstream to a beautiful black water lake system, where we take canoes at sunset. Later we find a quiet location for overnight. Day 2: Palas Island – Bos – Sei Gohong (Sunday/ Wednesday) The boat moves up the Rungan River as you enjoy breakfast. On arrival to Palas Island, a pre-release island operated by the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS), take a motorized canoe to observe the orangutans and later continue to the BOS Education Centre where orangutans are awaiting release in socialization cages. Learn about the BOS history and rehabilitation programs. Return to the boat and enjoy a leisurely lunch on board while cruising to Sei Gohong village. The boat will continue upstream passing Kaja and Bangamat islands, Orangutan pre-release islands. Here we transfer to small canoes to have a closer observation of the orangutans before heading for a refreshing swim in the black water lake if the river water level is sufficient. Return to the boat for dinner and overnight in a quiet location. Day 3: Sei Gohong – Kanarakan – Departure (Monday/thursday) Early morning short transfer to Tangkiling Hill by car, to visit Dayak cultural spirit houses and make the climb to the top of the hill. After breakfast, we depart for Kanarakan, passing the orangutan islands. In Kanarakan we are met by the village elder with Dayak Ngaju welcoming ceremony then stroll around with him to see the village home gardens, rubber field & rubber tapping demonstration, and other village livelihoods. Visit to the elder’s house and enjoy the traditional spices coffee while sharing stories. Return to boat for lunch and cruise downstream to Sei Gohong. Check out at 2pm for transfer to Palangka Raya airport or hotel. Tour ends. Itineraries are samples only. Cruise itineraries are subject to the starting port and to seasonal river conditions, but all offer the same experiences. Dry season conditions may cause alterations to the itineraries. What to Expect Onboard: Kumai is our newest boat, planned soon to have air conditioners silently powered by solar panels, has just been launched and taken her first group of happy passengers. 19.5 meters in length and 3.8 meters wide, it was a fishing boat with a high prow used locally. We have remodeled it with experienced Bugis boatmen. Named after the river it operates from, the Kumai is designed to accommodate 8 passengers, with space on deck to enjoy the views from the comfort of rattan sofas and optional outdoor hammock sleeping. This boat has all of the features which set Wow Borneo apart from the others – air-conditioned cabins, ensuite in every room, spacious unimpeded viewing decks and great food. Cruises are accompanied by 3 crew and an English speaking guide. If you have any questions, we can answer those through GetMyBoat’s messaging platform before you pay. Just hit, “Request to Book” and send us an inquiry for a custom offer.
